A message from our first business sponsor of the year...

"Gathered and Grown Botanicals was founded on the belief that connection to nature is at the root of overall wellness. We feel so fortunate to have access to incredible trails, parks, and green spaces right outside our backdoor, and stewardship of these spaces for all to enjoy is a core value of our business. That’s why we’re proud to support Wrangell Parks & Recreation’s Helping Our Parks Initiative!”

The Wrangell Parks and Recreation department’s mission is to “support active lifestyles through a variety of health, wellness and wilderness opportunities”. We provide programs and activities to the community by way of our municipal parks and facilities. Our municipal green space boosts our local economy, enriches our quality of life and caters to the visitor population that comes to Wrangell.

Wrangell’s park infrastructure is aging and in need of revitalization. In 2017, the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board and Director developed a creative and collaborative approach to addressing our needs via the “Helping Our Parks” (HOP) project. This annual event is designed to help offset costs associated with park and trail projects, strengthen relationships with community advocates/partners and inspire a culture of stewardship in our municipal green space. To that end, we need your help!

This spring we are proud to be hosting our 3rd annual HOP event on April 20th at Volunteer Park. The past two years’ events have demonstrated that the community of Wrangell cares deeply about the quality of their managed, easily accessible green spaces.

In the past, this event has raised $16,627 and has led to the resurfacing of Volunteer Trail, improvement of City Park shelters, Lower Cemetery revitalization, trail clearing, alder removal, building maintenance and more. Over 90 businesses and individuals have contributed to date. It’s particularly impressive to note the 600 volunteer hours that have been poured into the HOP events over the past two years.

This year our goal is to raise sufficient funds that will help us replace the roof on dugouts, paint the exterior of the park buildings, remove alders, purchase a new outdoor volleyball net and renovate the bathrooms at Volunteer Park. Our goal is $10,000 which Parks and Recreation will match 25%. The funds will be tracked and applied directly to the project.
