Welcome
The Winter Workout Challenge is a 60-day challenge created to encourage daily activity, with a goal of completing at least 30-minutes of exercise per day. This challenge is for people of ALL fitness levels. The mission of the Winter Workout Challenge (WWC) is to provide an opportunity for the community to kick-start their fitness and find healthy ways to increase their energy during the dark, wet, and cold winter days in Wrangell.

The WWC is also a contest of sorts. The participant who completes 30-minutes of exercise each day in the 60 day period will win an Annual Pass to the facility! The WWC provides the intrinsic incentive of increased health, fitness, and confidence. Not to mention opportunities for exploring different types of exercise and meeting new friends!

Wrangell Parks & Rec have teamed up with local businesses in the community who support the mission behind the WWC, and in turn have generously donated gifts that will be raffled off throughout the challenge - to those that participate consistently!

REGISTRATION
  • Program Fee: FREE, however, use of the Recreation Facility and Swimming Pool must be paid for byway of the daily entry fee, punch card payment or memberships.
  • Ages: 14+
  • Are you under 14 years old and want to participate in the WWC? See below!!
  • Registration Begins: December 16th, 2019
  • Program Dates: January 1, 2020 - February 29th, 2020

Workouts
  • Participants who complete workouts will post a tally mark on the progress chart - located in the swimming pool lobby. We encourage the use of the Parks & Recreation facility, but "off-campus" workouts also apply! Simply pop into the Pool office to post your daily tally, or send along a photo and let us know how your workout went!
  • If you're looking for suggested workout ideas, follow our Facebook Page as we will be posting pro-tips throughout the challenge. Check below for a few ideas to get you started!
  • Cardio: These workouts can range from use of several workout machines in the facility, jogging outdoors is encouraged, too.
  • Weights: Combinations of Body weight, Free weight, and weight machine exercises are encouraged!
  • Aquatics: Join us for lap/tot/open swims, along with water aerobics or arthritis classes! Build your endurance, gain mobility and range of motion. Bring along your pals!
  • After completion of this or any other workout, alert the staff to place a tally mark corresponding to the specific day and your name on the WWC Progress Poster.
  • Other workout ideas: Yoga (Wrangell Fitness), ANY Wrangell Fitness workout class (BODYPUMP, GRIT, CXWORX), Mt. Dewey hike, Volunteer Trail Hike, Rainbow Falls Hike, Water Aerobics Class, Arthritis Class, Masters Swimming/ Meets, Southeast Beasts Sunday Runs, Racquetball, Wallyball, Inner Tube Water Polo, Bike Path walk/ride. Affiliated WWC Organization

KIDS WINTER WORKOUT CHALLENGE
  • Are you under 14? Do you want to win prizes for being active?
  • Gain WWC Points for completing at least 30-minutes of physical activity per day. Be sure to report these to WPR staff each time you complete them!
  • The kid who completes the most activities will win a FREE 6 month pass to the WPR Facility!
  • Activity Ideas: General swim, Swim Club practice or swim meet, Mt. Dewey, Open Gym, Rainbow Falls, ANY School Sport GAME or PRACTICE, Wolfpack Wrestling practice, Tot Gym, Walk or Ride on Bike Path, Volunteer Trail.
  • Remember if you complete workouts "off-campus" from the Recreation Facility and Swimming Pool you MUST show proof of workouts completed by snapping a photo and showing it to staff at the facility when your points are posted on the progress chart.

Progress Poster
  • Each workout or activity you complete will earn you a WWC point. Keep track of your progress throughout the 60 day period on our WWC Progress Poster, which will be found on our bulletin board.
  • We have teamed up with several other fitness-motivated organizations from the community to provide you even more options to gain WWC points (Wrangell Fitness, Southeast Beasts).
  • There are also activities that can be completed outdoors for WWC points as well (Mt. Dewey, Volunteer Trail hike, Rainbow Falls Hike, Southeast Beasts Sunday Runs + Fun Run Events, bike path walk/ride).
  • You will also be awarded a WWC point for snapping a picture of a healthy meal you cooked, or your increased water intake, decreased phone usage, and efforts towards smoking cessation!
